Interview Roulette: Silvia Violet

Today Silvia Violet takes a spin of the wheel!

  1. Name two of your pet peeves. People not responding to emails or texts in a reasonable amount of time and people listening to music through the speakers instead of using headphones in a coffee shop or restaurant.
  2. What is the oddest thing on your music playlist? My Broadway playlist which ranges from Beauty and the Beast to Book of Mormon.
  3. If you were magically transported into one of your own books, which one would you choose and why? A book in my Thorne and Dash series because I’d love to bake with Dash/Riley and know someone with a lifestyle like Thorne’s.
  4. Warm weather or cold? Warm, definitely.
  5. If you were to become a street performer, what would you do to entertain people and earn some money? I wish I could do acrobatics, but if I had to go with something I can do in real life, I’d be a bard and tell stories.
  6. If you could become a full-time university student without worrying about future career prospects, what would you major in? Culinary arts
  7. What is the most useless or frivolous thing you’ve ever bought? Frivolous: very pricey tickets to Hamilton (and I’d do it again in a heartbeat)

Book blurb:

Well-Tailored by Silvia Violet

Marc longs for a grand romance, but he doubts he’ll ever be that lucky. Then he meets Darius, an arrogant tailor who pushes all his buttons. When Darius offers him a job, Marc hesitates—he needs a direction for the future, not another man who doesn’t believe in relationships.

Darius lives by a few unbreakable rules: never sleep with employees, fashion should be simple, and romance is for fools. Marc, with his shimmery sweater collection, makes him want to break every single one.

They quickly give in to desire, but Darius wants to protect himself and Marc refuses to repeat past mistakes. It’s only when they let go of assumptions, that love has a chance to take hold.

Author bio:

Silvia Violet writes erotic romance in a variety of genres including paranormal, contemporary, and historical. She can be found haunting coffee shops looking for the darkest, strongest cup of coffee she can find. Once equipped with the needed fuel, she can happily sit for hours pounding away at her laptop. Silvia typically leaves home disguised as a suburban stay-at-home-mom, and other coffee shop patrons tend to ask her hilarious questions like “Do you write children’s books?” She loves watching the looks on their faces when they learn what she’s actually up to. When not writing, Silvia enjoys baking sinfully delicious treats, exploring new styles of cooking, and reading to her incorrigible offspring.

Interview Roulette: Jenn Burke

Today’s player is Jenn Burke!

  1. One of your characters is running for political office. Who is it and what’s the office?

That would be Zed—Zander Anatolius—from the Chaos Station series. He’s already got the experience of being the emissary and mouthpiece for the Guardians, the mysterious omnipotent race that no one knows anything about. He’d never seek out a political position, but if he thought there was a need for him to step up and be president or ambassador or whatever—yeah, he’d totally do it. Grumbling the whole time, but he’d do it.

2. Shopping—love it or leave it?

It depends on my mood! I’m not a fan of Christmastime shopping in malls—too many people! But shopping for new summertime clothes? Especially pretty dresses? Yes, I’m all over that!

3. Describe one time someone surprised you.

When my dad read my first book! Her Sexy Sentinel is a paranormal romance, and he is so not a romance reader. But he read it, and he enjoyed it! Except he didn’t like the sexual tension. He asked, “Why don’t they just DO IT?”

4. Warm weather or cold?

Cold. Which is good, because Canadian.

5. One of the characters in your latest book buys a birthday present for another. What is it?

Zed would buy Felix anything his heart desired, and if he had free rein…I could see him buying Felix an old clunker of a ship for Felix to tinker with and fix up.

6. What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Uh…McDonald’s. Which isn’t a regular thing! But I was caught up working on my website and missed lunch, so I grabbed something on the way back from the dog park in the afternoon.

7. What is your most dreaded household chore? Your favorite?

Wait…people have favourite household chores? Can they come over here and work on my place? LOL.

Most dreaded…cleaning the kitchen. I hate it.

My favourite—and keep in mind I’m using that term very loosely—is laundry. Unless washing the car counts, then we’ll go with that.

Book blurb:

Phase Shift (Book Five of the Chaos Station Series)

Zander and Felix’s relationship has always pushed boundaries—personal and professional alike—but their love and commitment is stronger than ever. So strong that Zander’s ready to ask commitment-shy Felix the question of a lifetime when he’s interrupted. The Chaos is being hacked, and crucial, top secret information about the project that created Zander—and his fellow super soldiers—has been leaked.

Neither man could have expected the enormity of what’s discovered at the end of the data trail:  an entire colony of super soldiers run by the very doctor who changed Zander’s life forever. And now she needs them both—Zander to train her new crop of soldiers, and Felix’s new crystalline arm to stabilize their body chemistry.

With help from the unlikeliest of allies, Zander, Felix and the Chaos crew must destroy the project and all its ill-gotten information. But when the team is split up and Felix is MIA after a dangerous run, galactic disaster is a very real possibility…and Zander may have missed his chance to ask for forever.

She’s also the author of the upcoming paranormal romance, The Gryphon King’s Consort, from Dreamspinner Press.

She’s been called a pint-sized and puntastic Canadian on social media, and she’ll happily own that label. Jenn lives just outside Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband, two kids, and two dogs named after video game characters…because her geekiness knows no bounds.

Interview Roulette: Lou Sylvre

Today’s player is Lou Sylvre!

  1. What were your favorite books when you were a teenager? I can’t remember a lot of them, but the few I do recall are quite a mix! Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Tolkien), Gormenghast Series (Peake), Island of the Blue Dolphins (O’Dell), Call of the Wild (London), Confessions of Nat Turner (Styron), The Adventurers (Robbins), Watership Down (Adams), 1984 and Animal Farm (Orwell), Earthsea series (LeGuin), The Outsiders (Hinton).
  2. If one of your characters sent something in to PostSecret, what would it be? “I secretly think my father murdered my mother.”
  3. What was your favorite school subject? Least favorite? I can’t answer that straight up, because every year my favorite subject depended on my teacher. I loved science and PE in 8th grade, algebra and English in 9th, for instance. I can say the most awful class I remember was 8th grade social studies—Mr. C. made it so boring I actually got sent to the principal the only time in my life because I couldn’t stop myself from protesting. I can also tell you my number one favorite place in all years and all seven schools I attended, though—the Library.
  4. You have just won a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat. Your response? I have too much experience of poverty in my lifetime to be anything but grateful.
  5. If you could be any other living person for a single day, who would you be? A five-year-old living in a beach town in Southern California.
  6. Which of your characters would make a good BFF? Sonny Bly James leaps to my mind. 😊
  7. If you could choose anyone on the planet to narrate an audio version of your latest book, who would it be? I know it’s not very imaginative, but I’d have to say Greg Tremblay.
  8. Describe one of your weird or quirky habits. I was going to tell you that I converse with my cats, but everybody does that… right? So here’s one: I pick up random rocks, and frequently get really excited about them and I have boxes with them all organized and such. Every few years I say to myself, “Hey, they’re rocks for the gods’ sakes,” and toss (most of) them outside. Usually they end up in my tiny yard, and I have strong suspicion that over the next few years they make their way back into my collection.

Author bio:

I love romance (with all its ups and downs), and I love writing it. The lovers on my pages are men They end up loving each other, and it’s all pretty sexy. How cool is that?

I live in the narrow strip of rainy land in the northwest corner of the USA. We get some sunshine, but not enough to interfere with my writing, which I do in front of a big window that lets me look out at the rain whenever my cat is not in the way.

Your input needed!

I need your input, please! Read to the end for my question.

Things may seem a bit slow from me on your end right now, but really they’re not! I’ve been super busy. I have three novels sitting in various levels of publishing purgatory. Three! One of them, A Full Plate, is a contemporary in the Dreamspun Desires line, and it has a publication date of May 2018 (!!). The second one is a private eye noir in a medieval fantasy setting, and the third is a paranormal (vampires!). I’ll keep you updated.

Here’s what else is going on.

Flux will release on audio this month, narrated by Joel Leslie. I just listened over the weekend and he did an amazing job.

–Any minute now, my short story “Standby” will re-release with a new cover, and with all my royalties going to Doctors Without Borders.

Buried Bones comes out in Italian in May and on audio (in English!) in June, with John Solo narrating.

–I’m finishing up a Christmas story. How about a fireman from Kansas? This one is a longish short story.

–I’m working on my 21st novel, a contemporary about a book addict. 🙂

I have another project going too–and I’d love your input, please! What would you think about a series of paranormal/fantasy short stories/novellas, all focusing on the Bureau of Trans-Species Affairs, each set in a different decade? Kind of dark stories, a bit noir-ish, but with HEAs. The first story, “Corruption,” appeared in an anthology, but I’ll be re-releasing it soon by itself. The other stories will all be brand new, and I’ll release one every couple of months. Proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. Would you be on board for this? Please let me know!
